How to Stay Warm in the Classroom? (5 minute lesson plan)
The question itself makes a lot of sense, but alas I cannot help you… although I know who can! Watch the video to check a short and no-prep lesson plan that will help your students not only use English but also develop their problem solving skills:
So, to sum up the plan:
Introduction: 5 minutes
Talk about the cold classroom (it may be cold on its own, but you may also leave the windows open) and usual ways we use to stay warm (clothes, hot beverages etc.).
What would Jesus do: 10 minutes
Divide your students into groups and ask them to prepare a list of solutions – each group is supposed to imagine the person coming up with a solution is a fictional or historical. This will boost their creativity!
Things you definitely shouldn’t do: 10 minutes
Ask your students to work in groups (or as a whole class) and come up with some terrible ideas to stay warm in the classroom (burning the whole school for example) – that will make them laugh and boost their out-of-the-box thinking.
Brainstorm: 10 minutes
Ask your students to come up with as many solutions as they can to solve the problem of your own cold classroom (20 ideas in 10 minutes sounds ok).
Choose the best option: 5 minutes
Ask the groups to choose the best option from the ones they’ve listed – the funniest, the easiest etc., whichever criteria you choose.
Summary & homework: 5 minutes
Present the solutions and choose the best option to be used in the classroom!
Also, you may ask your students to choose (and justify the choice) as their homework.
Enjoy!
