Get Creative Everyday: a great planner for YL teachers
Last month, I shared a short video where I showed you Get Creative Every Day: an organizer, planner and a source of inspiration for all the teachers of young learners. Well, with August and the “back to school” vibes getting stronger and stronger, I wanted to write something about this publication, as I’m beginning to collect new things for the upcoming school year, and I thought that’s something worth your attention.
And not only because I’m one of the authors.
I myself am organized, creative, and I do love a good planner, so I’ve been quite excited about the new planner – and I’m happy to say it suits me perfectly well!
First of all, I really appreciate the layout of this planner. It’s pretty similar to bullet journals, and since I’ve recently started to try bujo, I find this pretty helpful. I can organize my planner in a creative way, add new ideas, cross out the ideas that didn’t really work, rearrange, recreate, sketch, note and doodle. I’m not yet a pro when it comes to bullet journaling but I’m getting better and this planner will definitely help me.
Apart from the layout, I like the planner section with suggested topics. Instead of browsing various websites in search of typical celebrations and most common topics, you have everything ready to go, from classroom rules in August to the Earth Day in April and summertime activities in June. They will definitely help you plan your classes around.
I also like unusual celebrations you may include in your lessons. You will find them listed out in every month like International Cat Day in August (that was last Sunday), Pizza Day in February or International Chocolate Day in July.
Every month includes some lesson plans you may use in your classroom. These lesson plans focus on lesson aims, song ideas and suggest various activities. Like, in September we’ve got Hello, My Body, Colors & Shapes, and in May you can include Means of Transport, Trips, and Picnics as these topics are the most common then.
Another inspiring feature is the weekly activity idea. Every week you’ve got an inspiring game or activity idea that you can use in your classroom. That’s how you make sure that every week brings something new for your students. What is more, there are some extra activities you will find at the beginning of every month. For example in July you get cute nursery rhymes about the weather, in August you will find some recommendations concerning interesting films and TV series for kids, and in November you may choose a great read among 10 awesome books for kids.
Now, at the end of the book you will find my input: some creative ideas you may use all year round. Funny energizers will help charge your students up, speaking tips will make your students use English as a form of game, and mindfulness projects will support not only learning English but also holistic development.
This planner was created not only by me but also by a bunch of experienced and creative teachers, and is supervised by the publishers who know their craft when it comes to the area of teaching English to young learners and child development and language acquisition. I’m sure you will find this publication as useful as I have, and it will help you get more organized, more creative… and more laid back!
